Commanders and the vFRG

The Army FRG website is a Commander’s tool that allows them to communicate directly to Soldiers and Family Members.  Army FRG provides all the functionality of a traditional FRG in an ad-hoc and on-line setting to meet the needs of geographically dispersed Units and families across all components of the Army.  The Army FRG website provides Commanders with a secure way to communicate information to their Unit’s Soldiers and their Family Members 24/7 from anywhere in the world.  A Unit’s virtual FRG site (vFRG) promotes a community feeling within Units by providing a place that is customized to the Unit and contains content that is controlled by the Unit.

By establishing a Unit vFRG site, Commanders and FRG Leaders can provide information, photos/videos, downloadable files, and more to the Soldiers of their Unit and the Family Members that support and care for them.  Commanders can determine the content provided on the Unit’s vFRG site and work with the site’s FRG Leaders to design, maintain, and add the content to the site.

The creation of a Unit's vFRG site involves no setup costs to the Unit and includes training and support using a variety of methods so that the Unit will be able to maintain their own vFRG site.  It is easy to get started and a new vFRG site can be created for an Army Unit in a matter of days!

To create a new Unit vFRG site as a Commander, follow these five easy steps:

  1. Click the  button.
  2. Enter your Unit information.
  3. Await a site approval email from U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Family and MWR Programs, which generally arrives within a few days.
  4. Follow the site creation instructions in the approval email.
  5. Upload site content.
